Our dermal fillers soften wrinkles, while adding contour and shape, which leaves skin looking refreshed, firm and smooth.
WHAT IS IT?
Dermal fillers are naturally-derived or synthetic substances which are directly injected into the skin to help create a smoother or more fuller appearance of the face. To be more specific, they act to restore or add volume to certain parts of the face and also to smooth out fine lines and wrinkles. The most commonly used dermal filler is one that is naturally-derived, called hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic acid is considered the safest and most reliable dermal filler in the British cosmetic industry.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Hyaluronic acid works by strengthening the skin's collagen and elastin – the two vital proteins which give the skins it’s strength, shape and firmness. Hyaluronic acid also works to hydrate the skin and provide nutrients.
WHAT AREAS CAN BE TREATED?
Dermal fillers can be used to achieve a variety of things including;
- Filing depressions or hollows, e.g. under the eyes ( tear troughs)
- Smoothening out wrinkles, e.g. frown lines, nose to mouth lines, vertical lip lines (smoker’s lines) marionette lines
- Resurfacing of skin, e.g. for acne or chicken pox scarring
- Augmentation and adding volume e.g. to lips, cheeks, chin , jaw
HOW LONG IS THE PROCEDURE?
A dermal fillers procedure may last from 30 minutes up to 1 hour.
IS ANAESTHESIA REQUIRED?
Frequently numbing skin creams are applied to the focus facial area before injection . For treatment of lips, a dental nerve block to numb the lips can be offered to ensure a pain-free experience.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SEE THE EFFECT?
Effects of dermal fillers are seen immediately.
HOW LONG DO THE EFFECTS LAST?
The duration of the effects are dependent on the type of filler used. The effects of naturally derived dermal fillers, such as collagen fillers and hyaluronic acid fillers, can last between 4 to 6 months. Synthetic dermal fillers may last 18 months to 24 months, and in some cases are permanent.
There will be immediate swelling and redness after the procedure, and some people may have mild bruising which subsides over 4-5 days. Many people do not experience bruising at all.
